Malcolm Gladwell: In 50 years, Steve Jobs will be forgotten and Bill Gates will be honored

In the year 2062, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs will be a distant memory and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates will be celebrated across the world, according to “Outliers” author Malcolm Gladwell. In a recent appearance at the Toronto Public Library’s Appel Salon, Gladwell discussed the work of both men in the context of time. ”I firmly believe that 50 years from now, [Bill Gates] will be remembered for his charitable work. No one will even remember what Microsoft is,” the author said. He continued, “And of the great entrepreneurs of this era, people will have forgotten Steve Jobs. Who’s Steve Jobs again? There will be statues of Gates across the third world.” 2062 is a long way off and while Gladwell’s predictions could certainly pan out, it’s also possible that John Gruber Jr.’s claim chowder file just got its first entry.

The aforementioned part beginning shortly after the 9-minute mark.

‘Thank God’ for Apple’s beautiful crystal prisons

The Electronic Frontier Foundation ruffled some feathers last week when it published a report calling for Apple to adopt a more open model with its mobile and desktop platforms. Apple is hurting users by making use of a closed model with iOS and OS X, which the EFF likened to “beautiful crystal prisons,” and also by imposing unnecessary limitations on its devices because the open source community is not being utilized. While a number of people agree with the EFF, highlighting the fact that Android’s open source model is part of the reason for its wide adoption among tech savvy consumers, many insist that Apple’s closed model is not just a benefit but one of the most important features of its mobile and desktop devices.

Siri Says The Best Phone Ever Is Not The iPhone

If you have an iPhone 4S, try this.
Launch Siri and ask “What’s the best cellphone ever”… and she will tell you that the Nokia Lumia 900 is the best.
The result is hilarious but seems like Windows Phone’s customer satisfaction scores have finally started to penetrate even Siri had to report that since she doesn’t lie.
Siri, if you didn’t know yet, it grabs answers that your ask everyday from WolframAlpha. And you can actually see the result on their website as well.

Siri - Ultimate Combat Assistant

So apparently Siri was originally developed for use in combat situations - well the good boys down at Sneaky Zebra Labs Inc. managed to unlock its core programming.

Siri, Ultimate Combat Assistant or UCA, was meant to be an A.I. capable of any combat situation, equip-able by a HUD it assist the user with such tasks as Gun Statistics displays, Proximity alarms, Predator Vision (TM), Automatic Control & would even tell you the location of the nearest bad guys location.

When Steve Jobs found out about this piece of tech, he brought up the rights & copyrighted it. Stuck it on the latest iPhone to use voice control on iOS & its original design lost forever.

However soon as the Sneaky Zebra Labs Inc. discovered the other side to Siri a group or poorly paid & lacking in skills group of misfit mercenaries have been sent in to take her back.
