bada 2.0 Interview (Justin Hong, VP with Samsung Mobile Communication)

Samsung Electronics announced the bada 2.0 SDK (Software Development Kit), an application development tool for Samsung’s own mobile platform. bada 2.0 is expected to be a catalyst in expanding the global distribution of bada smartphones, which have already received significant global sales.

The expansion of the bada platform is led by the success of the seven existing Samsung Wave devices. The Wave smartphones have proven extremely popular in Europe, China and Southeast Asia, where consumers have been attracted to their affordability and functionality; the recognizable user-experience and touch interface has helped introduce existing Samsung feature phone users to Smartphone services and application experiences.

Nokia Drama: New info on the software updates for Symbian 5.0 and 3.2 devices

Last week we made some edits in the article published in June on the software updates for Symbian 5.0 and 3.2 devices. We have since then received questions about this topic from our readers, so we’d like to share some more information on the status of these updates. We’d like to confirm that the planned updates for Nokia X6, Nokia 5530 and Nokia 5800 are still to be released and we are currently working on getting the software ready to launch in some months.

As all three models are among our older devices, not all operators globally will test and approve the software update for these phones. This is the reason why we decided to remove the devices from the global posting. Availability of the software update for these phones will be determined at a local level.

During our ongoing investigation of the incident we have discovered that a database table containing developer forum members’ email addresses has been accessed, by exploiting a vulnerability in the bulletin board software that allowed an SQL Injection attack. Initially we believed that only a small number of these forum member records had been accessed, but further investigation has identified that the number is significantly larger.
